After a couple of days staying at Bretts sister’s house, it was time to explore the city. The best and cheapest way to do this is with a London bus via the ‘Citymapper’ app. Not only does it give you the best way to travel from A to B, but it’s also really accurate and you can use it in other big cities in the world too!
Simply click on ‘ Get me Somewhere’ and it will get you as close as possible to your destination with a number of different options. We are still discovering how to use the app to its full potential, but so far it’s awesome!
Oh, it has a sense of humour too! If you find a trip and click on it, it gives you a laughable option, like going with a catapult in 1 minute instead of taking the bus for an hour. Hahaha…
On Wednesday, as good luxury gourmet travellers do, we explored the big Borough Market. Boasting some 50-100 stands filled with fresh fruit, cheese, vegetables, bread, drinks. Not only food/ingredients to buy, but also food to taste. What an amazing place. We tasted some crispy duck, mulled wine, risotto, raclette, pates, salt beef and some excellent truffle oil. Some advice from us: go hungry as there are loads of insanely delicious things to taste and eat.
When it started to get dark (and that’s early in London in winter – 4 pm) we explored some of the beautiful high streets of London with spectacular Christmas lights.
We also popped in at Hamleys Toy store in Regent Street, 5 floors of toys for children all ages 🙂
The next day we visited Harrods and Selfridges to see some more luxury food at it’s best. An absolute must is the food hall at Harrods, where you can find all the luxury food you want: from Waygu beef to fresh white truffles, from caviar to the most expensive champagnes and cognacs. It’s truly a gourmet travellers treasure trove.
After visiting this wonderful heaven for shoppers, we took the bus to Regent Street and walked around to look at the beautiful windows and Christmas lighting. We stopped in at Soho for a well-deserved beer at the “Shakespeares Head”
We also walked around London’s west-end and China Town. I expected to see more street food stalls in China Town, but it was still well worth a visit.
