Although we had both previously lived in the Netherlands, our lives revolved around city living. Big city life makes it easy to forget that the Netherlands also has beautiful nature to explore. Having been so spoilt living in South Africa, we found that the eastern part of the country (the Netherlands) has some very beautiful spots too.
Considering that the weather was surprisingly kind to us on returning to the Netherlands, we were keen to discover some more of the countryside.
During our first weekend, we went to Springendal (near Tubbergen) and followed the 5 km route. What amazing nature and forestry.
A week later we visited De Lutte where a shorter route was set out for us in the Lutterzand. At the halfway mark they had a lovely coffee spot where we enjoyed a nice coffee with Dutch Apple Pie. Yummy!
And last but not least: the Lemelerberg. During the walk, we encountered a shepherdess with 2 friendly dogs, who told us that her flock of sheep was a few hundred metres ahead. What a lovely view!
After these lovely weekends with almost summerlike weather, the weather has completely turned to winter and we are enjoying the convenience of central heating at the moment!
In two weeks time, our dearest and oldest friend Sinterklaas is visiting our family. A theatrical highlight for the little ones. We can’t wait to see their faces when he comes to visit and hands out presents.
