As promised, we said we would tell you more about our last days in/around London, but we were both down with nasty flu/colds, so a bit of a delay in the blog and a shorter version to prevent the backlog becoming even bigger. Our humble apologies š
The last night in London we were treated to a fantastic dinner at Roka Canary Wharf. What an amazing culinary highlight during our stay in London.
After this amazing experience we took the Eurostar back to Rotterdam and stayed there for 2 nights to connect with some old friends. Back āhomeā in the Netherlands, we started booking flights and accommodation, washing our winter clothes, packing our summer clothes and saying goodbyes to friends and family as we headed for Bali, Indonesia.
Thursday the 17th was THE day of our departure and the beginning of our amazing journey into SE Asia . We took the train from Enschede to Amsterdamās Schiphol airport (another good discount found on Actievandedag.nl). The whole check in process went smoothly and we even got āupgradedā to exit seats on Qatar. What a pleasure to fly with Qatar Airways. At the airport in Doha, Brett quickly bought some special Russian vodka as we heard liquor is very very expensive in Indonesia.
Half a sleeping pill for both of us and we both had a decent 6 hours sleep. That kept us going and able to deal with the jetlag.
On arrival in Denpasar, Bali we chose to get a free Visa exemption (on arrival) as we already booked our outbound flight to Chiang Mai on the 12th of February, so no extension of the Visa (this time) was necessary or even possible.
We pre booked an apartment in Ubud via booking.com for a week and had great contact with the owner. His son picked us up from the airport in Denpasar, so no stress on arrival for us.
Agus was waiting for us with a name board and drove us safely and professionally to our accomodation Ubud. On the way we stopped to get some cash from an ATM and a local Telkomsel sim card, so we were truly back in the land of the living and could keep our friends and family up to date!
After a quick shower, we grabbed a quick bite to eat at Warung Scooting before going to bed. A āwarungā is an informal family owned restaurant in Indonesia.
The owner of the apartment and his beautiful Indonesian wife had some lovely fresh juice prepared for us on arrival and bought kindly some bread, jam and eggs for us, so we had a small breakfast waiting for us in the morning. We bought some Jacobs coffee with us and thatās what Iām enjoying at the moment, while writing this blog. A decent cup of coffee to get me through the night (European time), while starting the day early in Indonesia.
The next week we will keep you updated with our first experiences of Ubud and surroundings.
Please keep on following us on our daring culinary journey!
Can’t wait to read more about your adventure.
